President's Donation 2019

Each year, the STLA president chooses one or more charities to support and President Elizabeth Burke has selected three nonprofits doing important work in South Carolina. 

The Waccamaw Community Foundation and Churches Assisting People each received $7,500. Waccamaw Community Foundation builds sustainable philanthropy by connecting donors with causes and has been instrumental in collecting and distributing support to regions in South Carolina suffering destruction from Hurricane Florence. Churches Assisting People has also been integral to the hurricane recovery effort by providing emergency assistance to families in need, supplying emergency assistance food, housing, and transportation.
 
Katrina's Kids received a donation of $5,000. The organization provides much-needed resources for foster children and children living in group homes, providing opportunities and memorable experiences, such as attending summer camp, participating in sporting events, and taking after-school drama or music class.
